James P. Berger, JD, CFP®Jim Berger practices law with Berger Estate & Elder Law, P.A., in Leawood, Kansas. He is a licensed attorney in Kansas and Missouri and has more than 25 years of experience. Jim concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, elder law and probate. As a Certified Financial Planner®, he approaches law with a thorough knowledge of investing and money management.
Jim received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, magna cum laude, and a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jim has served as president of the Kansas Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, as well as chairman of the Kansas Bar Association Committee on Legal Issues Affecting the Elderly and the Disabled. He is a member of the Kansas Bar Association Section on Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law. Jim is past chairman of the Johnson County Community Library board. Jim has been an instructor for Continuing Legal Education Classes on Estate Planning and Elder Law for the University of Missouri at Kansas City Law School and the Kansas Bar Association. For seven years in a row, Jim has been awarded the FIVE STAR — “Best In Client Satisfaction” designation by Crescendo Business Services and recognized in KC Magazine and Midwest CEO publications. |
Mary Ann RobisonMary Ann Robison practices law with the firm of Berger Estate & Elder Law, P.A. She is licensed in Missouri and Kansas, concentrating in the area of Elder Law, Probate and Estate Planning. Mary Ann received her Bachelor of Science degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, magna cum laude, and her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
Mary Ann began her career as a trust officer with Chemical Bank in New York, New York. Upon the birth of their second child, Mary Ann and her husband Jerry returned to Kansas City where they settled down to raise their family, which eventually grew to five children. Once their children were well established in school, Mary Ann joined Berger Estate & Elder Law in 2005. With a calm demeanor and much compassion, Mary Ann enjoys helping individuals and families through difficult times. |
Jon DaugharthyJon Daugharthy practices law with Berger Estate & Elder Law, P.A. He is a licensed attorney in Kansas and Missouri. Practicing law for over 15 years, Jon now specializes in Estate Planning, Elder Law, Probate and Trust Administration, and Non-Profits.
Jon began his law career in Nashville attending Vanderbilt University Law School for his Juris Doctorate. A licensed attorney in Tennessee for three years specializing in business law and litigation, Jon soon moved back to his hometown of Kansas City. Upon returning to Kansas City, Jon started his practice in Estate Planning, operating a sole proprietorship in Overland Park, Kansas for 10 years. Jon is happily married to his wife, Michelle, and has three daughters. As a Kansas City native and graduate of Kansas State, Jon is excited to be working alongside a seasoned team of local Estate and Elder Law attorneys. He shares their passion for supporting our community, as exemplified throughout his career. |
Kellie WarrenKellie is a proud parent of four kids, with three in Blue Valley K-12 schools and one in college. Having grown up in Overland Park and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School, she understands our community well. After completing her education at Cornell University and KU Law School, Kellie returned to Kansas. Kellie, chose to raise our family in Kansas City due to the vibrant neighborhoods, excellent schools, and promising job opportunities.
As an involved parent, Kellie coaches’ her daughters' sports teams, engages her son's outdoor activities, and actively participates in church and on PTO Boards. In 2018, Kellie was elected as the Kansas State Representative for District 28, and is now a member of the Kansas Senate representing the 11th District. Kellie has been a licensed attorney and practicing law for over 20 years. |
Marcia Van BuskirkMarcia joined the Berger Estate & Elder Law P.A. team in 2019 as an Administrative Assistant. Her role includes setting up appointments, greeting our clients when they walk though the door, managing the office and taking care of the day-to-day logistics in a part-time capacity. As a mother of three and a grandmother of four she enjoys helping others and looks forward to meeting you.

Sydney P. BurgoonSydney is the paralegal at Berger Estate & Elder Law, P.A. She received an associate degree in legal studies with an emphasis in Paralegal Studies in 2021 and has been working with the firm since 2022. Her duties include drafting estate planning documents, preparing client correspondence, and communicating with court clerks and real estate records clerks.
Sydney currently resides in Kansas City with her fiancé Tucker and their three pets. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her friends and family and exploring the city. While being new to the legal field and having a passion advocating for others, Sydney appreciates working among experienced attorneys to grow and learn from. |
Jesse K. BrownJesse is the marketing director of Berger Estate & Elder Law, P.A. He earned a B.S. from Kansas State University, graduating summa cum laude and has an M.S. from the University of Nebraska. Jesse also has an MBA and MACM from North Park University in Chicago.
Jesse Brown is a Kansas City native, and began his professional career owning and operating two small businesses, under the names of JBrown Horticulture Services and Midwest Glass and Mirror, located in Lenexa and Overland Park respectively. As a live-in caretaker for his grandmother while attending college and having a heart to serve others through missions, Jesse appreciates working alongside a team of attorneys that advocates for the elderly and has an enduring genuine care for their clients. |
